What is Fluomizin?

Fluomizin is prescribed to treat bacterial vaginosis that occurs due to a change in the balance of bacteria in the vagina. It is an antiseptic treatment that has the active ingredient dequalinium chloride. Tablets are inserted into the vagina and target the bacteria in the infected area, killing it quickly before it can reproduce.

How does it work?

The bacteria in a woman's vagina must be carefully balanced to prevent an infection from occurring. There needs to be an ample amount of good bacteria known as lactobacilli. If there is not enough present, it can cause harmful bacteria to overpower the vagina and grow, leading to symptoms such as irritation and discharge. Fluomizin stops this process from occurring.

The active ingredient in Fluomizin is dequalinium chloride which works as an antiseptic and an anti-infective in the vagina. Once the tablet is inserted, the ingredient attacks bacterial cells.

In response, the cell walls will weaken, and the cell’s vital enzymes cannot function. As a result, the bacteria dies, allowing the vagina to be restored to a natural balance.

What dosages are available?

Fluomizin comes as 10mg oval white or coloured tablets. It should not be used unless you are advised so by your doctor or pharmacist. It is essential to inform them of any other medication you are taking, medical history or allergies you may have.

The doctor will most likely recommend that you take one tablet each evening for 6 nights. Then if your symptoms do not subside, your doctor will advise you to return for a follow-up appointment. It is also important to read the instructions in the packaging before taking it.

How do I use Fluomizin?

If you don't know how to use Fluomizin, speak to a medical professional first.

You should never exceed the recommended dose, which is one tablet a night for 6 nights. You should use Fluomizin every evening before you go to bed. Before you open the medication, you should wash your hands so you reduce the risk of cross-contamination. When using Fluomizin, you should do the following:

  1. lie down on your back in a reclining position
  2. bend your legs slightly, and use the applicator to insert a tablet deep into the vagina
  3. if you find your vagina is dry, you might need to wet the tablet to insert it

If your period happens to occur mid-treatment, you should stop the treatment of Fluomizin and continue once finished. Plus, don't use a vaginal douche or other vaginal devices when taking this medication; it could increase the risk of infection.

Even if you notice your symptoms easing up, do not stop taking the treatment. If you do this, you could be putting yourself at risk of the symptoms returning.

It is also equally as important to not take more medication than stated as it will just endanger your body; it won't increase the effectiveness of the tablet. Similarly, if you forget to take the tablet, don't take extra; just continue taking them as normal the following day.

It is important to know that Fluomizin contains ingredients that do not dissolve entirely. Don't be alarmed if you find the remains of the tablet in your underwear. If this occurs, it won't prevent the effectiveness of the treatment. In this instance, you may wish to use a sanitary towel or panty liner.

If you have the impression that the effect of Fluomizin is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

What are the possible side effects of Fluomizin?

Just like all medications, you may be at risk of certain side effects by taking Fluomizin. The side effects aren't always guaranteed, and it is unlikely you will experience them; however, you should always be aware of them.

Common side effects

The common side effects of Fluomizin affect around 1 in 10 people:

Common:
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal burning
  • Vaginal itching
  • Vaginal yeast infection (otherwise known as thrush)

These side effects tend to be mild; however, if you find them persisting any longer, then consult with your doctor.

Less common

The less common side effects occur in every 1 to 100 people. These side effects are vaginal bleeding, vaginal pain, inflammation of the vagina and vulva, bacterial vaginosis, fungal skin infections, headache and nausea.

Reported side effects

There are some users of Fluomizin who report certain side effects; however, there is still not enough scientific information out there to support them. They are ulcerations of the vaginal mucosa, fever, uterine bleeding, vaginal redness, vaginal dryness, inflammation of the bladder, allergic reaction and more.

It is important that if you get any of the above side effects to consult your doctor immediately.

Who can use it?

You can use Fluomizin if you have a bacterial infection. Make sure to speak to your doctor for alternative treatment if you are:

  • allergic to the ingredients in the medication (read the leaflet inside of the packaging to know more)
  • have pre-existing ulcers on your vagina or cervix
  • if you've reacted badly to an antiseptic in the past

What precautions should I take?

Before you order Fluomizin online, you will have to fill in a quick online consultation. These consultations only take a few minutes of your time. These must be conducted so a doctor can assess your health.

While filling out the consultation form, you should state all the medical conditions you have and any existing medications you're taking.

Fluomizin is known to damage non-latex condoms and intravaginal devices. It is advised to not engage in intercourse until you have completed the course. Finally, if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you should inform a doctor before starting treatment.

Can I buy Fluomizin online?

Yes, you can order Fluomizin online through euroClinix, along with treatment for other conditions. As mentioned previously, you must undergo a quick consultation with the doctor first to know your medical history.

If the doctor feels the treatment is suitable for you, they will dispatch a prescription and send it to our pharmacy. Following this, you will receive your medication in one working day.

All orders from euroClinix include a consultation, prescription and delivery. If the doctor does not approve, you will not be charged.

Note: You must complete a short online consultation so that our doctor can ensure that the treatment is suitable for you. The above pricing should only be used as a reference. The final decision to issue this treatment lies with the prescribing doctor.
